It’s been six months since we first shuffled along to a darkened warehouse to see the amazing The Ting Tings play some songs and deface the walls, time which has seen them top shitloads of Tips for 2008 lists AND score a massive (ie top 100) hit with ‘Great DJ’.
With the re-release of ‘That’s Not My Name’ imminent, as well as their album and a ‘Stateside push’ in the pipeline, isn’t it about time this band was featured on an iPod advert?
Was anyone in attendance at the last, sponsorship laden Mint Lounge bash?
I'll jog your memories: walking, posturing, DOs, Ipso Facto (they're moody, yeah?), Friendly Fires and the uber-hyped Black Kids each played live sets to a club packed with prettily preened party kids. And whilst it was fun watching everyone desperately doing their best to avoid landing themselves into next month's DONTs, what was better, was that this was laid on for us good Manchester folk for everyone's favourite price: FREE.
Play on! Give me excess of it!” Seems to be (more or less) the concept behind the video for Esser’s debut single, ‘I Love You'. Perhaps. Maybe if Will had re-jigged the line a bit to the less-good sounding “If love be the taste of food, then throw all you’ve got! Right at me!”
Poor lovelorn Esser. He’s all at sea! He just does not know how to tell the one that he loves how he’s feeling, which you’ve got to admit, is a pretty sorry situation. But not to fret! Because this is one sticky sitch made all the better by making oneself even more, erm, stickier. Quick, someone squirt this man with red sauce! Because y’know, that’s how love feels:
“Oh! It came o’er my ear, like the sweet sound of spaghetti!”
A bittersweet pop nugget, I’m sure you’ll agree. And it's out on Monday folks, on hipper-than-you label, Merok (Klaxons, Crystal Castles, Teenagers) available on limited 7 ” and download. Lovely.
For us, it's hard to find an era where Craig wasn't producing amazing music: from his percussive outings to sensual techno right up to the present date where he makes sumptuous yet devastating club monsters. In fact, he's just a collected together a bunch of favourite remixes for a new compilation.
Shoplifters returns to the Bay Horse this week (10/04/08). Heralding that fusion of mash-ups, remixes and cover versions is this mix that the night's promoters have just alerted us to. Shoplifters, by the way, is free. Meaning you needn't resort to petty crime and stuff.

Long-running house session Development recently announced that it would be leaving its slot at the Mint Lounge and - at least temporarily - halting its monthly activities. Only now the city's house music scene has been dealt another blow with the departure of the similarly quality-controlled Stylus.
Taking an unspecified break while not extending the contract that they had at Once Central Street, Stylus' team point towards "other commitments" while announcing a hiatus to "recharge the batteries".
